A Wee Bit About Us
The Steading was built in 1851 making it one of the oldest houses in Melvich. We bought the buildings and then renovated The Steading into a house in 1998. It was a tough decision as it was to either go through with the renovation or to go to the France 1998 World Cup but we chose the latter with a heavy heart at the time!
It was originally owned by the local "Bighouse" Estate and was used for storing meat and other produce caught by the estate workers. The estate later gifted the house and the outbuilding (now The Steading) to a local lady as a reward for her services to the estate over the years.
With the outbreak of Coronavirus in 2020, during the second lockdown at Christmas time we decided that The Steading was in need of an upgrade! Without a second thought, walls were removed and the bathroom was put to the skip!
After a few months of hard work, the Steading was finally fully renovated with a new open plan living area, a newly fitted bathroom, and most importantly the new addition of a woodburning stove which has already proved to be a hit with our guests!

In June 2021 we were up and running on Air B'n'B and were overwhelmed by the response! We have met some lovely people from all over the world enjoying the North Coast 500 and we are looking forward to meeting many more in the years to come.

New ideas for 2023 are already in the works with plenty of new and exciting features coming, so stay tuned!
